# Generate Your First Customer Acquisition Plan with AI

> Use GetBuilo's AI to build a step-by-step customer acquisition plan—identifying your best channels, first 100 customers strategy, and growth tactics.

The hardest question every new founder faces is the same: *How do I actually get customers?* Not theoretically—actually. GetBuilo's Founder Coach and AI Prompt Engine answer that question with a concrete, channel-specific plan built around your specific business, audience, and resources. This tutorial walks you through generating, refining, and activating a customer acquisition plan designed to get you to your first 100 paying customers.

<Tip>
  Resist the temptation to automate or scale your acquisition tactics before you've made them work manually. Your first customers should come from direct, high-touch outreach—real conversations, personalized emails, and genuine community participation. Manual acquisition is slower, but it teaches you exactly what messaging, objection handling, and positioning works. You can automate what's already working. You can't automate what you haven't figured out yet.
</Tip>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Complete Market Research and Customer Persona First">
    Your acquisition plan is only as strong as your understanding of who you're acquiring and where to find them. Before generating your plan, confirm that both of these modules are complete in your project:

    * **Market Research:** Your report should include target market size, key customer segments, and an understanding of where your ideal customers currently look for solutions like yours.
    * **Customer Persona:** Your persona should include demographic details, job role or life situation, active communities (online forums, social platforms, events), and the specific language they use when describing their problem.

    If either module is incomplete, navigate to it in your project sidebar and run it now. The Founder Coach will use both of these data sources when generating your acquisition plan—incomplete inputs produce vague outputs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the Founder Coach">
    From your project dashboard, click **Founder Coach** in the left navigation. The Founder Coach is GetBuilo's AI advisor—it has full context on your business, including your idea, validation score, business model, market research, and persona data. You interact with it through a conversational interface, just like you would with a trusted advisor.

    You'll see your project context displayed at the top of the Coach interface. Confirm that all relevant modules are listed as active context before you begin your session.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask the Coach to Create Your Acquisition Plan">
    Type the following prompt into the Founder Coach:

    ```
    Create a customer acquisition plan to get my first 100 customers.
    Include:
    1. The top 3 acquisition channels for my business, with a rationale for each
    2. Specific tactics for each channel (not generic advice)
    3. A 30-60-90 day roadmap with weekly milestones
    4. The metrics I should track to know if it's working
    5. The biggest risks to this plan and how to mitigate them
    ```

    The Coach will generate a comprehensive plan in 60–90 seconds. Read through the entire response before asking any follow-up questions. The plan will be tailored to your specific business model and persona data—it won't recommend LinkedIn outreach for a B2C product or Instagram for an enterprise SaaS tool.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review the Response and Ask Follow-Up Questions">
    After reading the plan, use follow-up prompts to deepen any section that feels too general or that you want more tactical detail on. Here are example follow-up prompts you can use:

    <Accordion title="Drill down on a specific channel">
      ```
      You recommended [channel, e.g., cold email outreach] as my top channel.
      Give me a step-by-step playbook for this channel specifically:
      how to build the prospect list, what the outreach sequence looks like (subject lines,
      body copy, follow-up cadence), how many outreach attempts per week I should aim for,
      and what a realistic conversion rate looks like at my stage.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="Get objection-handling scripts">
      ```
      What are the top 5 objections my ideal customers are likely to raise when I reach out,
      and how should I respond to each one? Give me specific response language I can use
      in emails, DMs, and sales conversations.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="Build a referral strategy">
      ```
      Once I have my first 10 customers, how do I turn them into a referral engine?
      Design a referral program for my business including the incentive structure,
      the ask script, and the timing of when to make the ask.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="Prioritize when resources are limited">
      ```
      I have 10 hours per week to spend on customer acquisition and a budget of $[your budget].
      Given these constraints, how should I allocate my time and money across the
      channels in my plan? Give me a weekly schedule broken down by hour.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    Continue the conversation until you have a plan detailed enough to act on immediately. The Founder Coach is built for iterative dialogue—the more specific your questions, the more actionable its answers.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Use the AI Prompt Engine to Generate Channel-Specific Assets">
    With your acquisition plan framework in place, open the **AI Prompt Engine** to generate the actual assets you'll use to execute it. Use the following prompts based on the channels in your plan:

    <Accordion title="LinkedIn Outreach Sequence">
      ```
      Write a 3-message LinkedIn outreach sequence for [your business name] targeting [your persona, e.g., "early-stage SaaS founders with 1–10 employees"].
      Message 1: a connection request note (under 300 characters) that references something specific about their profile or company and doesn't pitch anything.
      Message 2: a follow-up after they connect (under 150 words) that introduces the problem we solve without being salesy—end with a low-commitment question.
      Message 3: a soft pitch (under 200 words) if they've engaged with message 2—focus on a specific outcome, include one social proof element, and offer a clear next step with no friction.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="Cold Email Templates">
      ```
      Write a cold email template for [your business name] targeting [your persona].
      Structure:
      - Subject line (3 variations: one curiosity-based, one outcome-based, one question)
      - Opening line that is personalized and not a compliment (reference their industry, a common problem, or a recent trend)
      - One sentence on what we do and who we help (no jargon)
      - One sentence on a specific, concrete outcome we deliver
      - One social proof signal (early adopter count, result, or relevant experience)
      - CTA: a single low-friction ask (a 15-minute call, a free trial, a quick question)
      Keep the entire email under 150 words.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="SEO Content Strategy">
      ```
      Generate an SEO content strategy for [your business name] to attract [your persona] through organic search.
      Include:
      - 10 target keywords with search intent (informational, navigational, or transactional)
      - 5 blog post titles targeting high-intent keywords, with a brief outline for each
      - 3 landing page concepts targeting bottom-of-funnel keywords
      - Recommended publishing cadence given a solo founder with 5 hours per week for content
      ```
    </Accordion>

    <Accordion title="30-60-90 Day Acquisition Roadmap">
      ```
      Build a detailed 30-60-90 day customer acquisition roadmap for [your business name].
      For each phase, define:
      - The primary goal (e.g., "validate messaging with 50 manual outreach attempts")
      - Weekly actions broken down by channel
      - The milestone that signals readiness to move to the next phase
      - Metrics to track progress (leading indicators, not just revenue)
      Make it realistic for a solo founder working 20 hours per week on acquisition.
      ```
    </Accordion>

    Save every generated asset to your project's **Content Library** using the **Save to Project** button after each generation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save the Plan to Your Project">
    Once you've finished generating and refining your acquisition plan through the Founder Coach and AI Prompt Engine, click **Save Plan** in the Founder Coach interface. GetBuilo will compile the full conversation and generated assets into a structured **Acquisition Plan** document within your project.

    Give the plan a clear title (e.g., "First 100 Customers — Q1 2025") and add any personal notes in the **Notes** field at the top. This document becomes a living reference you can return to, update, and share with team members or advisors.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect Acquisition Tactics to Your Marketing Strategy">
    Navigate to the **Marketing Strategy** module. Use the **Link Acquisition Plan** button to connect your newly saved acquisition plan to your existing marketing strategy. This creates a unified view of your go-to-market approach—your strategy sets the positioning and channel priorities, while your acquisition plan defines the specific tactics and timelines for executing them.

    Review both documents side by side and check for any contradictions or gaps. If your marketing strategy recommends a channel that doesn't appear in your acquisition plan—or vice versa—update one of them to align. Consistency between your strategy and your execution plan is what separates businesses that gain traction from those that stay stuck in planning mode.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Export the Plan as a PDF">
    When your plan is complete and connected to your marketing strategy, click **Export → PDF** from the Acquisition Plan document view. GetBuilo will generate a clean, formatted PDF that includes your channel strategy, outreach templates, roadmap, and metrics framework.

    Use this PDF to:

    * **Brief a co-founder or team member** on your acquisition approach
    * **Share with an advisor or mentor** for feedback before you execute
    * **Keep yourself accountable** by printing it and reviewing it weekly
    * **Apply for accelerator programs** that ask for a customer acquisition strategy

    The PDF export also includes your project's market research summary and persona overview, giving reviewers the full context behind your plan.
  </Step>

## The First 100 Customers Framework

Before you run a single outreach message, internalize this framework. The path to 100 customers follows a predictable pattern for most early-stage businesses—understanding it helps you sequence your tactics correctly and avoid the most common mistakes.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Direct Outreach (Customers 1–20)" icon="paper-plane" href="/ai-features/founder-coach">
    Your first customers almost never come from inbound marketing. They come from founders who found them personally—through their network, LinkedIn, industry communities, or cold email. These conversations are also your best source of product feedback. Target people you can reach within two degrees of separation before going cold.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Community Participation (Customers 20–50)" icon="users-rectangle" href="/founder-journey/marketing-strategy">
    Find the online and offline communities where your target customers already gather—Slack groups, Reddit communities, industry forums, Discord servers, local meetups. Contribute genuinely for two to four weeks before mentioning your product. When you do mention it, frame it as a solution to a problem the community is already discussing.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Content & SEO (Customers 50–80)" icon="file-lines" href="/ai-features/ai-agents">
    By the time you have 50 customers, you understand your customer's language well enough to write content that actually ranks and resonates. Create high-intent blog posts and landing pages targeting the exact phrases your customers search when they're looking for a solution. This channel compounds over time—invest in it consistently.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Partnerships (Customers 80–100)" icon="handshake" href="/founder-journey/marketing-strategy">
    Identify complementary businesses that already serve your target customer but don't compete with you. A single well-structured partnership—a co-marketing email, a product integration, a joint webinar—can generate dozens of warm leads in days. Focus on partners who have a direct relationship with your exact persona.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

<Note>
  These four channels are ordered intentionally. Most founders try to skip direct outreach because it feels uncomfortable and doesn't scale. That's a mistake. Direct outreach teaches you what works before you invest time and money in channels that are harder to iterate quickly. Do the manual work first.
</Note>

## Milestones to Track

Use these milestones to measure your progress through the acquisition plan:

| Milestone                        | What It Signals                                                         |
| -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **10 conversations booked** | Your outreach messaging is working at a basic level |
| **First paying customer** | Your product solves a real problem at a price people will pay |
| **5 customers from one channel** | You have a repeatable acquisition motion worth doubling down on |
| **10% referral rate** | Your product is delivering enough value that customers want to share it |
| **100 customers**                | You have product–market fit signal and a repeatable go-to-market motion |
